User friendly healthy: The Importance of UX in Health-Apps

This is exactly what we set as our goal with Femble. The health platform is more than just an app – it’s a personal companion that helps women to better understand their bodies and improve their wellbeing. With AI-supported recommendations on nutrition, exercise and mental health, Femble adapts to the individual needs of its users. But even the best mission can lose its effectiveness if the user experience is not convincing. Our UX audit helps to close this gap.

Together with Femble for a Better User Experience

The Femble app underwent a comprehensive UX audit as part of the Product Elevator. At the same time, potential users tested the usability of the app, accompanied by creative design thinking methods, in order to develop concrete suggestions for improvement. The combination of new perspectives and collaborative problem-solving provided valuable insights for the further development of the app.

HIdentifying Challenges, Developing Solutions

Three key topics emerged from the UX audit and the usability tests with potential users:

  • Tracking is a Pain

    Daily data entry, a core component of the app, is currently too time-consuming. Instead of promoting a helpful routine, the high effort causes frustration for many users.

  • Design vs. Usability

    Minimalist design may seem appealing at first glance, but it can significantly impair user-friendliness and thus the motivation to use the app. If important functions are pushed into the background and navigation is made unnecessarily difficult, not only does user enthusiasm decrease, but also the duration of use.

  • Accessibility

    Low-contrast text, small font sizes and a lack of customization options make it difficult for certain target groups to access the app which then reduces the user experience.

Measures for a Better User Experience

In an interactive workshop, the results of the UX audit and usability tests were analyzed and practical solutions were developed together with the Femble team:

Facilitate Tracking:

  • Automated suggestions based on previous entries
  • Reduced input fields with helpful default settings
  • Personalized notifications with quick input options
  • Visible tracking on the start page combined with a shortened query of the most important information enables fast and intuitive use

With the measures developed, Femble can not only increase user loyalty, but also noticeably improve the daily user experience.
